"Jesus forgives, expects us likewise."

Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. Luke 23:34.

This is one of the seven words spoken by Jesus while He was being crucified. Jesus is asking God to forgive those who were actually responsible for putting Him on the cross — the Jewish leaders, the Roman soldiers, and the crowd that was mocking Him. But His forgiveness is also for every person for whom He died, including you and me. This demonstrates His heart of compassion and unconditional love. Now, He also expects us to forgive others as He forgave us and to pray for others as He prayed for us.  Matthew 6:14 says, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
