"Repentance brings comfort and forgiveness."

See, I have taken out of your hand the cup of trembling. Isaiah 51:22.

Prophet Isaiah is telling about the people of Israel who provoked God by disobeying His commandments and not following His ways. So they drank in the cup of wrath, which is the punishment of God. After they realized their mistakes and came back to God for forgiveness, God took the cup of trembling and His wrath away from them and comforted them. The same situation occurs in our lives when we do not follow God's Word and go astray; we need to face the consequences. When we call upon His name and turn away from our wickedness, He forgives us and comforts us. He will not allow us to suffer if we repent. In Psalm 55:22, King David says, “Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”
