"Honor others with humility and love."

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Philippians 2:3.

Apostle Paul tells the Philippians not to be selfish or try to impress others. Instead, they should be humble and think of others as better than themselves. Humility is the most difficult lesson for us because we are all naturally self-centered. Christ's followers need humility, which means helping others instead of thinking only about ourselves. We need to honor others. Arrogance, or being too proud, makes us selfish and goes against Christ's teachings of love. Paul describes how Jesus humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Because of His obedience and humility, God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above every name. The word of God says that God will lift us up if we humble ourselves before Him. Romans 12:10 says, “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another.”

அப்போஸ்தலனாகிய பவுல் பிலிப்பியர்களிடம் சுயநலமாக இருக்கவோ அல்லது மற்றவர்களைக் கவர முயற்சிக்கவோ வேண்டாம் என்று கூறுகிறார். அதற்கு பதிலாக, அவர்கள் மனத்தாழ்மையாக இருக்க வேண்டும், மற்றவர்களை தங்களை விட சிறந்தவர்களாக நினைக்க வேண்டும். மனத்தாழ்மை என்பது நமக்கு மிகவும் கடினமான பாடம், ஏனென்றால் நாம் அனைவரும் இயற்கையாகவே சுயநலமாக இருக்கிறோம். கிறிஸ்துவைப் பின்பற்றுபவர்களுக்கு மனத்தாழ்மை தேவை, அதாவது நம்மைப் பற்றி மட்டுமே சிந்திக்காமல் மற்றவர்களுக்கு உதவுவதையும் சிந்திக்க வேன்டும் . நாம் மற்றவர்களை மதிக்க வேண்டும். ஆணவம், அல்லது மிகவும் பெருமையாக இருப்பது, நம்மை சுயநலவாதிகளாக்குகிறது, மற்றும் அன்பைப் பற்றிய கிறிஸ்துவின் போதனைகளுக்கு எதிராக செல்கிறது. இயேசு எவ்வாறு மரணத்திற்கும், சிலுவையில் மரணத்திற்கும் கீழ்ப்படிந்து தன்னைத் தாழ்த்தினார் என்பதை பவுல் விவரிக்கிறார். அவருடைய கீழ்ப்படிதல் மற்றும் தாழ்மையின் காரணமாக, தேவன் அவரை மிக உயர்ந்த இடத்திற்கு உயர்த்தி, எல்லா நாமத்திற்கும் மேலான நாமத்தை அவருக்கு அருளினார். நாம் தேவனுக்கு முன்பாக நம்மைத் தாழ்த்தினால் தேவன் நம்மை உயர்த்துவார் என்று தேவனுடைய வார்த்தை கூறுகிறது. ரோமர் 12:10 சொல்லுகிறது, “சகோதர சிநேகத்திலே ஒருவர்மேலொருவர் பட்சமாயிருங்கள்; கனம்பண்ணுகிறதிலே ஒருவருக்கொருவர் முந்திக்கொள்ளுங்கள்.”
