Ointment and perfume delight the heart, And the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by hearty counsel. Proverbs 27:9.

King Solomon compares the pleasing aroma of oil and incense to the joy and refreshment that wise counsel from a trusted friend brings. We see this kind of friendship in Scripture, like David and Jonathan’s bond or Mary of Bethany anointing Jesus with fragrant oil—a loving act that filled the house with its sweet scent and brought joy to Jesus. In the same way, a true Christian friend provides gentle encouragement, wise guidance, and correction with kindness, becoming a source of joy and spiritual renewal. Let’s strive to bring this uplifting “aroma of Christ” to others, showing love, care, and even sacrifice in our friendships. Are you offering wise counsel and Christlike love to your friends? John 15:13 says: "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends."
